Q

How do you conduct a leak check?

A

Pressurizing the hoses and watching the gauges for a drop in pressure(do not check with a lighter).

Q

What valves need to be off?

A

The main valves and the torch valves. Regulator pressure adjusting screws need to be backed out with no pressure on gauges.

Q

What are the steps to lighting the torch?

A
  • open acetylene valve 1/8-1/4 turn(not opening causes black floaters).
  • use torch striker
  • open valve until smoke goes away and flame doesn’t jump from tip.
  • open oxygen torch until inner cones are defined(known as neutral flame)

14
Q

What do the numbers for welding rods signify?

A
  • First 2 digits are for minimum of 10,000x number in pounds of tensile strength per sq. in.
  • Last 2 digits are for the flux/shielding on a rod. Higher number means more shielding, flux, and/or metal that’s deposited.

A

Carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum(w/ special feeder)

18
Q

What do MIG welders require to work?

A

A

Argon, Carbon Dioxide and Helium

21
Q

What are the most common welding techniques?

A
  • Whipping the rod(back and forth)
  • Circles
  • Weaving side to side(wider welds)
22
