Welding Flashcards
Fusion Welding
Coalescence is achieved by melting the two parts to be joined, in some cases adding filler metal to the joint
Examples - arc, resistance spot welding, oxygen-fuel gas fusion welding
Diffusion welding
Only the welding filler melts and it diffuses into the solid parent parts
Solid state welding
Heat and/or pressure are used (plastic state) to achieve coalescence, but no melting of base metals occurs and no filler metal is added
Examples - Forge welding, friction welding
Five types of welds
Surface, Groove, Fillet, Plug, Slot
Groove Welds
Used to fuse the sides or ends of two piece metal, The primary use of groove welds Is to complete butt joints
Fillet welds
They have a triangular cross section and are used to fuse two faces of metal that are at 90 degree angles to each other
Tig
Tungsten inert gas, Tungsten electrode is very slowly consumed,
Wrought Iron
Nearly pure form of iron with a very low carbon content, softer and more malleable than steel
