Dawes Plan 1924
Agreement which reduced amount of Germany’s annual reparation payment and provided US loans to help
Decree
An official order or law e.g. Article 48 allowed the President to pass any law without parliament’s agreement in times of emergency
Freikorps
Paramilitary groups of volunteer soldiers. In Weimar Germany, these groups were often strongly nationalist and linked to extremist politics
Inflation
When prices rise and the amount that can be purchased with each unit of a currency reduces: the value of the currency declines

Munich Putsch
Attempt by the Nazi Party in 1923 to seize power and start a national revolution. It failed.
Nationalist
A political idea that seeks to glorify the nation.
Passive resistance
Resisting a government and / or state via peaceful means (e.g. German workers’ response to French occupation of the Ruhr in 1923 was to stop working).
Proportional representation
Electoral system in which seats allocated in parliament correspond to the way in which people vote .e.g if 20% of voters vote for a party then that party receives 20% of seat in parliament

An attempt to seize power
