The Grandschule (compulsory education for students aged 6 to 10 years).
Did the government succeed in introducing a federal school law which would outline guidelines on education?
No – three bills were proposed and failed in 1921 and 1927.
What did the education bill of 1927 propose?
That confessional, common (various faiths) and secular schools (no religious education) be set up on an equal footing.
Who ran the education system in the Weimar Republic?
The Länder – this meant that the education system remained diverse.
What was different about education beyond the age of 10?
- Had to be paid for.
