-SOLDIERS DIED = psychological impact/ anxiety & anger/ soldiers returning unwilling to believe they lost the war
-RUMOURS & SUSPICIONS = “stab in the back” myth (later used by Hitler): weak politicians who called for peace/ new Jewish political leaders responsible for forcing Germany’s defeat
What was the economical impact of WW1 to GERMANY?
-AGRICULTURE = most farmers fought in the war so fields were bare & harvest wasted/ milk production fell by 50%
-BRITISH BLOCKADE = Led to “Turnip Winter” to 1916 to 1917. Due to food being limited, people had to eat exclusively on root vegetables – (Malnourishment)
-DEBT- further increased when having to sign THE TREATY OF VERSAILLES IN 1919 which caused Germany to pay reparations to Victorious Allied Countries
What was the Political impact of WW1 to Germany?
-WILHELM ABDICATED ON THE 9TH NOVEMBER 1918 = SPD came into power
-FREIDRICH EBERT CAME INTO POWER because of the unstable nature of the country declaring it to be led as a Republic in coalition with other socialist parties

What was article 231 of the treaty of Versailles?
ARTICLE 231: Germany was solely to blame for the outbreak of WW1. Many Germans hated - claimed act of defence.
-Allies needed Germany to accept for reparations to be set. The resentment of 231 would later be manipulated by HITLER!!!

-REPARATIONS were set to £6.6 BILLION POUNDS = failure to pay led to FRANCE occupying the Ruhr in 1923.

-inspired by the social revolution in RUSSIA in 1917
-DISLIKE TOWARDS THE WEIMAR REPUBLIC = supporting rich and not the working class (communism wanted)
When was the SPARTICIST UPRISING and how did take place?
- 5th January 1919 led by ROSA LUXEMBURG and KARL LIEBKNECT
-SEIZED CONTROL of a number of Government headquarters (but little planning and support)
-EBERT stopped them by the FREIKORPS (ex-soldiers from World War I who formed private armies to fight against communists and other enemies of the Weimar Republic)
-10th of January they regained control back
