Weight And Flight Performance Flashcards
Heavier Gross Weight Effects
Overheating in climbs
Added wear on engine
Increased fuel
Heavier Gross Weight
Longer takeoff/landing role
Shallower Climb
Faster Touchdown
Structural Failures
Excess weight can over stress the aircraft and could be catastrophic.
Gross Weight and Load Factors
Limits observed, total load remains in limits
Max gross weight exceeded, load factors could cause damage
Differences when overloaded
Gross weight adversely affects stability regardless of CG
Airplane with forward loading
Heavier and slower then airplanes with aft CG.
Requires a high AOA which results in more stage and a higher stalling speed.
More Controllable.
Aft CG
Stall recovery more difficult because the plane wants to remain at higher AOA.
CG moves aft only 1 or 2 inches
Recovery of spin may be impossible, especially if CG moves beyond aft limit.
