Weight And Circular Motion Flashcards
What is weight?
The force acting on an object due to gravity
Weight equation
Weight (N) = mass (kg) x gravitational field strength (N/kg)
W = m x g
How is weight measured?
Using a calibrated spring balance or newton meter
What is the relationship between the gravitational field strength and weight of an object?
It’s stronger the closer you are to the mass causing the field and more massive objects create stronger fields. The weight on an object changes with its location.
What happens when an object is moving in a circular motion?
When an object is travelling in a circle at constant speed the constantly changing direction so it’s constantly changing velocity. TMT it’s accelerating.
What force acts on the object moving in a circular motion?
A resultant force which is a centripetal force that acts towards the centre of the circle.
