Weight and Balance Flashcards
An aircraft is considered to be in balance when?
When nose heavy moments and tail heavy moments are equal
or
when the moments of the loaded aircraft fall within its CG range
On what document(s) can the maximum weight be found?
TCDS, Aircraft Specifications, and Aircraft flight manual
Where can an airplane’s EWCG be found?
In the aircraft’s weight and balance report
What is the most important reason for an aircraft weight and balance?
Safety (and efficiency)
Why do you weigh an Aircraft inside?
So wind doesn’t cause an error on scale readings
Concerning weight and balance, what information is NOT found in the Type Certificate Data Sheet?
EWCG
What is the formula for the center of gravity?
Total moments / Total weight
What task do you complete prior to weighing an aircraft?
Drain fuel and top off oil and hydraulic fluid
When weighing an aircraft, how is the tare weight dealt with?
Subtract it from the scale readings
The useful load consists of what?
Crew, passengers, cargo, baggage, water, temporary ballist, and useable fuel
Why is the datum line often placed ahead of the aircraft?
So that all arms will be positive numbers
Maximum weight means what?
Maximum authorized weight
Is oil considered tare weight? What is?
No
Any weight that is not part of or included in the aircraft weight
Ex: Chocks, loading straps
How much fuel should be left in the tank(s) for weighing?
Only unusable fuel
The center of gravity of an aircraft means what?
CG is the point at which all the weight of the aircraft is concentrated or balanced
