Weeks 1 & 2 Flashcards
What do the following mean; PaD PlD Di Pr Pa Pl
Palmodorsal Plantardorsal Distal Proximal Palmar Plantar
Are lateral views generally done as left or right laterals?
Right side down
What are some positioning aids we can use to help with positioning and animal on the xray table?
Sandbags foam blocks and wedges gauze / rope Radiolucent trough tape wood blocks
What do we use to measure an animal for adjusting settings on the xray machine? what is the unit of measurement?
Calipers
cm’s
What is radiolucent?
Almost entirely invisible in radiograph. Relatively penetrable
What does radiopaque mean?
Objects block radiation rather than allowing it to pass through
What is radiodense?
Xrays cannot penetrate the object at all
What does superimposed mean?
The images on the xray overlap affecting giving a clear view of what we are trying to see
What do the following terms mean?
DMPalLO
PalLDMO
Dorsomedial-palmorolateral oblique
Palmorolateral-dorsomedial oblique
What was William Crooks credited for discovering?
In the early 1870’s he developed a glass tube and a system for evacuating air from it to study energy in a vacuum. Negative charge on one end….positive charge on the other
What was Wilhelm Roentgen credited with discovering?
He noticed a projection of image on a screen when using a Crooks tube. He produced what is considered the 1st xray, an image of his wife’s hand.
What was Albert Einsteins contribution to radiography?
He was the first to describe light and xrays in terms like ‘wave’ ‘particle’ and ‘photon’.
What is a cathode?
Negatively charged end of the xray tube
What is a photon?
Basic unit of light ( no mass, travels at speed of light)
What is an anode?
Positively charged end of an xray tube
