Week7 D2 Ch17 &12 Quality Assur. Flashcards
QUALITY ASSURANCE
• Quality control tests must be performed routinely to determine whether the conditions for film processing are adequate
• The darkroom must be checked for light-tightness and proper safe lighting every 6 months
• If the darkroom is light-tight, no visible light is seen
• If the darkroom is not light-tightie: light leaks are evident around the door, ceiling, keyhole, or vent, then it should be corrected.
QUALITY ASSURANCE
• If the unexposed film appears clear and dry and if the film exposed to light appears black and dry, the automatic processor is functioning properly; if it does not, then corrections must be made
• Processing solutions must be replenished daily and changed every 2 - 4 weeks (varies from office to office)
• Processing solutions must be evaluated each day prior to processing any patient films
Fixer solutions
• When the fixer solution loses strength, the film takes a longer time to clear which means it should be re-immersed in the fixer solution; if it does not clear in 3 to 4 minutes, the fixer solution should be changed
• When the fixer solution is at full strength, a film clears within 2 minutes exhibiting adequate properties
REFERENCE RADIOGRAPH
• A radiograph that is processed under ideal conditions
• Used to compare the film densities of radiographs that are processed daily
• If the densities seen on the reference radiograph match the densities seen on the daily radiographs, the developer solution strength is adequate
• If the densities seen on the reference radiograph appear light, that is an indication that the developer solution is weak or cold; if they appear dark, that is an indication that the developer solution is too warm or concentrated
• THE DAILY CHECK FILM SHOULD APPEAR IDENTICAL TO THE CONTROL FILM
