How to ensure for a safe shower
Make sure the shower is clean and has non-slip mats. Stools or chairs should be available for people who have little mobility. Check the temp of the water before helping the patient in and out of the shower.
What can you do to avoid corneal ulcerations due to eyelids that remain open?
Use a protective eye shield to keep eyes closed, lubricate with saline and lubricate with artificial tears

What are the risks in older people that may lead to a fall?
- previous fall
- muscle weakness & unsafe gait
- urinary frequency & incontinence
- postural hypotension
- certain medications (eg psychoactive medications)
- visual impairment
- cognitive impairment (such as delirium, dementia)
- change in environment
How can you reduce the risk of falls for older adults?
bed rails, lowering beds, non-slip mats in wet areas, non-skid footwear, adequate lighting, handrails in bathrooms, call bells in bedrooms and bathrooms, keeping patient areas uncluttered, fall risk screening and planning.
