Ambiguity
describing a very old word, typically no longer in use
Archaic
a word or phrase that is not formal and is often used in everyday conversation, reflecting the informal language of a specific region or group
Colloquialism
displaying scholarly knowledge
Erudite
special words or expressions used by a particular profession or group, often difficult for others to understand
Jargon
not easily decoded
Indecipherable
the study of the structure and form of words in a language, including the formation of words from prefixes and suffixes
Morphology
a subtle difference in or shade of meaning, expression, or sound
Nuance
a word formed by parts of two other distinct words; i.e.- “smog” which contains ‘sm’ from “smoke” and ‘og’ from “fog”
Portmanteau
the arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences in a language
