Why can anthropology throughout history be viewed as limited?
The field was dominated by men (usually western) and their perceptions of the world around them, including those of other cultures and ethnicities.
What are ‘Partial Selves’?
The idea that a person’s identity is built of many different, shifting parts such as race, gender, class. Critical awareness of one’s positioning in the field.
What brings the promise of ‘epistemological productivity’?
Developing true reflexivity through shared sexual encounters between two partial selves.
What is reflexivity?
The examination of one’s own beliefs, judgments and practices during the research process and how these may have influenced the research.
What did Lunsing find through his research?
The way in which different cultures (eg. Japan) reacted to and treated homosexual relationships, as well as social hierarchies and sexuality.
