- a form of trans identity
- umbrella term: genderfluid, agender, genderqueer
- some may also identify as non-binary AND a woman/man

- ie. using different registers to linguistically manipulate the expression of gender in drag

- durability: how long a sign endures over time (ie. “BOY” tattoo, facial hair, chest hair)
- flexibility: a sign that easily changes or adapts in different contexts/performances (ie. clothing, pitch contours, gestures)

- key experiences in the participants’ lives that allowed them to understand themselves as non-binary
