Week 8 - Monitoring Load Flashcards
What is load?
The sport and non sport burden as a stimulus that is applied to a human biological system
What is External load?
Any External stimulus applied to the athlete that is measued independently of their internal characteristics (e.g. 2km run in a training session)
What is Internal Load?
Load measurable by assessing internal response factors within the biological system, which may be physioloigcal, psychological (e.g. RPE)
Why do we measure load?
- To understand the stressors and demands placed on the athlete during training and competition, both internal and external
- To control the training stimulus and predict training adaptations
- To track longitudinally the amount of work our athlete is being required todo in order to manage fatigue and readiness
How do you measure internal load?
- RPE
- Wellness questionnaires
- Player readiness
- HRV OR HR
- Lactate
- Sleep
How do you measure external load?
- GPS
- Velocity
- VOlume load
- Training duation
- Accelerometers
What are piezo-electric-tri axial accelerometers?
Measures acceleration in three planes of motion
What is a Gyroscope?
Helps determine the athletes orientation, rotation and tilt to aid in measurements of angular acceleration
What is a magnetometer?
Uses earths magnetic pulse to determine orientation
What does the sampling frequency (Hz) represent?
The number of times per second that the unit communicates with the satelite
