2. God says that the request for a king is a rejection of God (who was really king), not Samuel (who was not really king)

4. Nevertheless, elevating Israel to a kingdom was part of God’s plan
5. God punishes Israel with a king who happens to be wicked (Saul), but later gives them a king who is faithful (David)
