Week 8 Key Notes - Davidic Covenant Flashcards
1
Q
What are the sins of Saul, resulting in his losing the kingdom?
A
- Offering Samuel’s burnt offering
- Failing to destroy the Amalekites
2
Q
Note the importance of reading the request for a king carefully:
A
- Samuel tried to set himself up as king by instituting a dynastic line
- God says that the request for a king is a rejection of God (who was really king), not Samuel (who was not really king)
- The request for a king is therefore an act of idolatry
- Nevertheless, elevating Israel to a kingdom was part of God’s plan
- God punishes Israel with a king who happens to be wicked (Saul), but later gives them a king who is faithful (David)
