About how long are the delay times for tape delays?
65 to 150 ms
What artists and time period used tape delays?

What technique is used to make a vocal sound richer?
The doubling delay technique is used to make a vocal sound richer.
How does doubling work?
A vocal track is recorded twice, on two different tracks. The vocalist tries to match the phrasing and pitch of the original as closely as possible.
Is there an alternate way to achieve doubling without recording two tracks?
Yes, there is an alternative. Doubling can be recreated using a short delay.
Which artist used tempo-matched delay significantly, and when?
The Beatles used tempo-matched delays to achieve doubling starting in 1966 (Revolver is the album)
How else can tempo-matched be used, outside of being used for doubling?
Tempo-matched delay can be used on other instruments, including drums, to enhance and create new rhythms.
How can you use a short delay as an interesting stereo effect?
Short delays can be used as an interesting stereo effect by keeping the original on one side, and panning the delayed signal opposite of the original. This will be heard as a wide stereo signal.
