Week 8 - Breathlessness in a diabetic woman Flashcards
What 6 things should be immediately done for this patient?
What does the ECG show?
She is still acutely short of breath. What further emergency drug therapy should be given to this patient?
What does the X-ray show?
What has precipitated this woman’s acute left ventricular failure? What are the likely underlying causes of her cardiac failure?
Briefly describe your further management of a patient with AF and heart failure following MI in hospital.
What further cardiovascular drugs could be added to a patient who has had an MI, and in now in AF with heart failure which have been proven to improve survival and quality of life?
There are several drugs that have been shown to improve symptoms, reduce hospitalization or reduce mortality in heart failure. These include:
1. Angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (such as ramipril or lisinopril).
2. Spironolactone.
3. Betablockers (such as carvedilol or bisoprolol).
4. Digoxin (even when in sinus rhythm).
