Week 7: The Strategic Compass Flashcards
From individual to corporate purpose
Individual: Self, others, context (VENN)
Team: Team, Organization, context (VENN)
Organization: Organization, external stakeholders, context (VENN)
S2 Corporate purposes - reflections. All organisations have a purpose , the question for leaders is what level of purpose they choose: S1 or S2?
The principal audience of purpose is internal, it is not principally a pseudo marketing campaign for external stakeholders, customers or investors - although it can form part of the communications later on, when it is genuinely being lived. It is a question of timing and authenticity.
S2 Corporate purposes - reflections
A S2 purpose is not a means to an end, it is not another way to motivate your staff to achieve greater profits. A S2 purpose is an end in itself, a completely meaningful reason for you to engage in the work of the organisation.
S2 Corporate purposes - reflections
A S2 purpose can be lived each day, and is not a hostage to a future outcome. It is present -moment. One can fulfil a purpose and miss a goal or outcome.
S2 Corporate purposes - reflections
It provides meaning for the work that is undertaken.
It guides both tactical and strategic choices.
The Strategic Compass
