Significance of abuse issues in sport
-Long term damage on wellbeing
-nullifies benefits sport and PE can bring

Physical Abuse
Non accidental trauma caused by punching, beating, kicking, biting, or otherwise harming an athlete.

Pattern of deliberate prolonged, repeated non contact behaviours in a power differentiated relationship.

Sexual Abuse
Any conduct of a sexual nature. Contact or non contact or penetrative. Coerced or manipulated concent
- non contact when i child is involved in a sexual conversation

Neglect
Faliure of parent, caregiver/ guardian to meet a young persons emotional needs. Failure to protect from danger

Bulling
Unwanted repeated intentional aggressive behaviour amongst peers

Normative requirement of joining a club or team ‘ rite of passage’
largely initiation at start/ end of the season celebrations.
Intended to increase commitment ‘’ price of team membership’’
we focus too much on indivitual matters intervention limited to changing individuals behaviours
