What is moderaton?
Moderation occurs when the relationship between two variables changes as a function of a third variable.
What is a moderator?
A variable that changes the size and/or direction of the relationship between two other variables.
What is an interaction effect?
The combined effect of two or more predictor variables on an outcome variable. It can be used to gauge moderation.
What is centring?
The process of transforming a variable into deviations around a fixed point. This value can be any value you choose but it’s generally thegrand mean.
What is grand mean centring?
The transformation of a variable by taking each score and subtracting the mean of all scores from it.
What is a simple slopes test?
An analysis that looks at the relationship between a predictor variable and an outcome variable at low, mean, and high levels of a third (moderator) variable.
What is a mediation?
Perfect mediation occurs when the relationship between a predictor variable and outcome variable can be completely explained by their relationships with a third variable.
What is a direct effect?
The effect of a predictor variable on an outcome variable when a mediator is presnt in the model.
What is an indirect effect?
The effect of a predictor variable on an outcome variable through a mediator.
What is the index of mediation?
A standardised measure of an indirrect effect. In a meditaion model, it is the indirect effect multiplied by the ratio of the standard deviation of the predictor variable to the standard deviation of the outcome variable.
What is the sobel test?
A significance test of mediation. It tests whether the relationship between a predictor variable and an outcome variable is significantly reduced when a mediator is included in the model. It tests the indirect effect of the predictor on the outcome.
What are dummy variables?
A way of recoding a categorical variable with more than two categories into a series of variables all of which are dichotomous and can take on values of only 0 or 1.
