Week 7 GP Immunology Flashcards
1
Q
Th1 (T-helper 1)
A
1
Q
Types of Antigen presenting cells (AT)
A
- Dendritic cells
- Monocytes/ macrophages
- B Lymphocytes
- Other cell types: endothelial and epithelial cells
2
Q
Innate Immune system
A
Immediate response (within first 12 hours)
- Non specific and no memory: recognises common pathogen- associated molecular patterns (PAMPS) and damage associated molecular patterns (DAMPS), has no memory.
- Key components: includes physical barriers (skin/mucous membranes), chemical barriers (stomach acids) and immune cells and proteins (complement, phagocytoes), neutrophils/macrophages, dendritic cells, mast cells, NK cells and ILCs
3
Q
Adaptive immune system
A
-Delayed response (days to weeks)
-Specific response and memory: more specific response to antigens on pathogens with a target response.
-Forms memory of antigen onces its exposed.
- Key components: B and T lymphocytes, antibodies
4
Q
Primary response
A
- Occurs first time you get exposed to antigen
- slower response there is usually a lag phase (4-7 days)
1-2 weeks for immune system to generate sufficient levels of antibodies - B cells produces IgM (igM are short live) followed by IgG
- limited pool of antibodies that are activates, magnitudes of response is smaller
5
Q
Secondary response
A
- Exposure to the same antigen ther second tine.
