Week 7 Flashcards
angina (pectoris)
chest pain caused by the ischemia of the myocardium
ankle/brachial index
calculated by dividing the ankle systolic blood pressure by the brachial systolic blood pressure
aortic valve
opens from the left ventricle into the aorta
apical
regards the apex of the heart
arteries
provides O2 and nutrients to the heart
amplitude (of pulse)
force of pulse (2+)
atrioventricular valve (AV-valve)
The tricuspid and mitral valve are called the AV valves
bruit
low-pitched blowing sounds heard during systole
capillary refill
how long it takes for a finger or toe to regain color after pressure is applied to the nail bed (greater than 2 seconds indicates poor perfusion)
contour
outline or shape of the pulse that is felt
dorsalis pedis pulse
a pulse that can be felt on the top of the foot
edema
swelling caused by too much fluid trapped in the body’s tissues
electrocardiogram (ECG)
Used to assess rate and rhythm of the electrical conduction of the heart
Erbs point
a landmark on the chest where a doctor listens for heart sounds and murmurs
left sternal boarder (LSB)
the area between the second and fifth intercostal space near the left sternum
