Week 6 Reflection Flashcards
Standardized test
Will yield either and norm referenced or criterion referenced inference; is given and scored in a standardized manner to all test takers.
Norm-referenced
Performance is evaluated in relation to the performance of those who have previously taken the assessment.
Criterion-Referenced
Assesses the degree to which a curricular aim has been mastered by the test-taker. This does not depend on how well other students did on the assessment.
Mean
Average of a set of scores on a given assessment.
Median
Midpoint of a set of scores on a given assessment.
Stanine
Similar to a normal curve equivalent; normal distribution of scores is assumed; Scores are divided into 9 sections and contain differing proportions of the distribution’s scores.
Percentile
Used most frequently to describe standardized scores; easy to understand for most people; compares a student’s score to others in the same norm group.
Normal Curve Equivalent
The NCE attempts to use a student’s raw score to arrive at a percentile score. This assumes that distribution of the scores follows a bell-shaped curve.
Standard Deviation
A kind of average; average difference between individual scores in a group and the mean of those scores.
Standard Error of Measurement
Indicates the consistency of a person’s performance on given assessments
p-value
Indicates a test item’s difficulty based on how many students answer correctly or incorrectly.
Scaled Score
Used to report national and state-level standardized test scores; Scores are placed on a scale with higher numbers indicating higher performance.
Item Response Theory
Scale score reporting system; takes into consideration the difficulty and other properties of each test item.
Grade-equivalent
Relates the students’ scores to their grade level and months of the school year; can indicate a student’s grade level progress.
Item Discrimination
This tells how often a test item is answered correctly by those who perform well overall on the assessment.
