Week 6 (Clinical Reasoning and Treatment Planning) Flashcards
Clinical Reasoning
1. Observation: identify gross limitations from static and dynamic observation
- Atypical posture (static observation)
- Restricted motion (dynamic observation)
- Instability (dynamic observation)
Clinical Reasoning
2. ROM testing
AROM testing: full, non-painful or restricted painful
PROM testing: compare to AROM and consider 2JM contributions
Clinical Reasoning
3. Contractile vs non-contractile
IMT: can confirm or rule out contractile tissue pain source
PAM testing: confirm or rule out non-contractile tissue pain source, identify joint restrictions as the source of movement restriction
Clinical Reasoning
4. Weakness and coordination
Use FSPB skills to determine involvement of muscle weakness or poor movement coordination as impairment
Clinical Reasoning
5. Palpation
Use palpation to further support diagnosis and rule-out other differential diagnoses
What does SMART stand for?
Specific Measurable Achievable Relevant Time bound
Treatment Planning
- Establish patient goals
- Identify relevance
- Prioritise problems
- Identify appropriate and available treatment modalities
- Negotiate plan with patient
