Week 5: Ventilation/Perfusion Flashcards
ACE-inhibitors
Lisinopril, Zestril, Prinivil
Lowers BP by specific inhibition of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)
Lisinopril decreased peripheral resistance (afterload) and pulmonary vascular resistance. There is improved CO and exercise tolerance
Uses: HTN, alone or with other anti hypertensives, CHF, to improve MI survival
Route: PO
Check BUN, creatinine, GFR
ACE-inhibitors contraindications and precautions
Contraindications: history of angioedema r/t treatment with an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors, pregnancy (category D), and nursing mothers
Caution: impaired renal function, hyperkalemia, pts on diuretic therapy; autoimmune diseases esp. systemic lupus erythmatous (SLE)
Increase awareness of serum potassium, creatinine, and GFR
Ace inhibitors side effects
HA, dizziness, fatigue
Hypotension, chest pain
N/V, diarrhea, anorexia, constipation
Cough (ACE cough), rash, azotemia
Hyperkalemia, increased BUN and creatinine
