Week 5 - Lumbar Spine Flashcards
AP Lumbar
Pp: supine; hands on chest
Flex knees to reduce lordosis; or put pillow if they cant flexes
Cr: @ L3
IR
SS: Lumbar bodies, IV disk, spaces, interpediculate spaces; laminae and spionous and transverse processes
True Lateral Lumbar
PP:recumbent true lateral;
*Knees flex
*Support head and lower thorax on
pillow so long axis of spine is
horizontal
IR: Center film at level of crest
CR- Perpendicular to midpoint of film (@ crest)
PP: ERECT ; lateral ; wt evenly distributed; arms raised out of way
CR- Horizontal to midpoint of film
SS- Lateral projection of lumbar bodies, their interspaces, spinous processes, lumbo sacral junction and sacrum and coccyx. The last lumbar intervetebral foramina are not usually well visualized because of their oblique direction.
Lateral L5 - S1 Spot Film - Lumbar
PP: Pt lateral recumbent, coronal plane passing 1-1/2” posterior to midaxillary line centered to IR
IR: Cassette centered at level of transverse plane passing midway between iliac crests and ASIS
CR- Perpendicular to midpoint of film, or 5 degrees for male and 8 degrees for female if spine cannot be adjusted horizontally, entering midway between level of iliac crest and ASIS
SS- Lateral proj of lumbosacral joint, the lower lumbar vertebrae and the upper sacrum
RPO or LPO Oblique -Lumbar
Pp: Pt in same position as for AP lumbar
*Rotate pt 45 degrees for
demonstration of articular facets
and 30 degrees for demonstration
of lumbosacral facet
*Lumbar spine in obl position
overlies the long plane that
passes along the dependent side
2” lateral to the spinous process
IR: Center cassette at level of L3
CR: Perp to midpoint
SS- Oblique projection of lumbar spine and articular facets of the side nearest the film.
* Both sides done for comparison
