What is clinical depression?
a general term for a group of mental health disorders characterized by persistent feelings of sadness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities
What are some Common Depressive Disorders?
1.Major Depressive Disorder
2. Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder
3. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder
4. Substance/Medication Induced Disorder
What is MDD?
characterized by one or more depressive episodes with symptoms such as:
- Depressed mood
- Changes of appetite
- Sleep disturbances
What is the DSM Diagnostic Criteria for clinical depression?
5 or more symptoms must be present during the same 2-week period nearly every day and represent a change from previous functions––at least one of the symptoms must be depressed mood or loss of interest or pleasure
How can we asses and diagnosis depression?
Clinical interviews, structured assessments, and behavioral observation
What are some risk factors for depression?
