How do we meditate?
We focus on one thing, like our breathing, for at least one minute, but preferably ten minutes, and track it
What does Seligman say is a Character Strength?
It’s… ubiquitous, fulfilling, morally-valued, does not diminish others, opposite of a negative trait, trait-like (stable genetic-like), measurable, distinctive, there are paragons, there are prodigies (people who precociously have it), selectively absent(some don’t have it), institutionalized (society values it).
What are signature strengths?
Those are character strengths most essential to who we are
How many signature strengths applied seems to be a sweet spot for work satisfaction?

What is ‘flow’?
The zone. A person feels fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment
What are some features of flow?
Challenging but attainable goals, strong focused concentration, there is reward in the activity itself, feeling of serenity, unselfconscious, lose track of time (timelessness), lose track of physical needs, complete focus on the activity itself
What are the best moments of our lives?
Not passive, receptive, relaxing times, but when our body and mind is stretched to its limits in a voluntary effort to accomplish something difficult and worthwhile
What is extrinsic motivation?
Engaging in behaviors to earn external rewards or avoid punishment
What damage does extrinsic motivation do?
Takes away from just doing to learn or for fun (ie, damages intrinsic motivation). Also damages the growth mindset.
What is intrinsic motivation?
Engaging in a behavior because we enjoy the activity itself
What is the growth mindset?
Believing that intelligence can be trained and most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work
What is the fixed mindset?
Believing that basic qualities such as intelligence and talent are fixed traits— ie, genetic
What is time affluence?
Having time to do what you want, including nothing, without feeling strapped for time
What is mind-wandering?
A shift away from current task or events in our external environment to self-generated thoughts
What is meditation?
Practice of turning our attention away from distracting thoughts toward a single point of reference
