Week 5 Flashcards
Closed circuit
When an electric current moves through the conducting parts of the wires, bulbs or other devices.
Switch
Turn the current on and off.
Charge
The thing that is moving through the wires and the bulb.
Conductors
Substances that electric currents can flow through easily.
Insulators
Substances that do not allow electrical current to pass through them (or poorly).
LED
Type of bulb that is used in all kinds of lighting.
Voltage
The amount of ‘push’ an electron feels.
Current
The amount of electrons passing a point per second.
Batteries
Voltage source that provides constant voltage.
Rechargeable batteries
Batteries you can recharge by passing a current through them in the opposite direction.
Mains voltage
The voltage of an electrical socket.
Transformer
Device that converts the mains voltage down to a low voltage 230 to 5.
Circuit diagram
Drawing that shows the special symbols that have been thought up to let you make clear circuit drawings.
Series circuit
Circuit that has no branches, just one current loop.
Source voltage
The voltage supplied by the battery.
Parallel circuit
Circuit that has multiple branches and comprises different loops.
Total current
Current in the unbranched parts.
Mixed circuits
Some components are connected in series and other in parallel.
Power
The amount of electric energy that a device uses per second.
