identification phase
-client is more dependent than independent
-client begins to identify problems
exploitation phase
- client is more engaged
- nurse doesn’t solve problems but provides client with info and opportunity
- balance of dependence and independence

- patient moves from dependence to independence
- completion of this phase results in termination of the nurse-client relationship
