Week 4: Neuroeconomics Flashcards
1
Q
What does neuroeconomics aim to do?
A
- Aims to determine the psychological basis for the observed anomalies in the rational model of neoclassical economics.
2
Q
What are the three most popular types of brain imaging methods and briefly explain these
A
- Positron emission tomography (PET)
- Electroencephalogram (EEG): Measures electrical potentials at the scull caused by neural activity
- Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI): uses the fact that hemoglobin has different magnetic properties depending on whether there is little or much oxygen in the blood Increased neural activity in the brain uses up more oxygen such that initially, the oxygen level in the activated areas falls later the fall in oxygen is overcompensated for when oxygen rich blood moves into the activated area.

Q
Common limitations
A
10
Q
What is the Multiple system hypothesis
A
- Multiple systems send signals to the brain which the brain then processes in different ways and different weights.
