Define globalisation.
A term used to describe how trade and technology have made the world into a more connected and interdependent place.
What are the main concerns involved with economic globalisation?
Increased movement of people (migration), money (investment) and goods and services (trade) across borders.
What does inequality measure?
The distribution of incomes (or other assets) across populations.
What is the most commonly used indicator of inequality?
The Gini co efficient
How do we find the Gini Co-efficient?
With the Lorenz curve of the distribution of income.
What does the straight diagonal line in the Lorenz curve mean?
A state of perfect equality.
What is the equation for the Gini co efficient?
Area A divided by area A+B and expressed as either a value between 0 and 1 or 0 and 100.

What is a patent?
A statutory, time-limited, exclusive right, granted by a national authority to prevent others from legally making, using and offering for sale or selling a qualifying invention.

What is TRIPS?
An international treaty that sets out the minimum standards for most forms of intellectual property protection.
Why does WHO promote generic medicine?
Considerably less expensive than originator products.
