Week 4 Flashcards
Can you insert a T2 notation whenever you want?
No, there are only certain times you can use it.
When are the only times you can use T2?
When specifically instructed to in the schedule; when when instructed using T1-09; when noted from other tables.
There are occasions when the classifier is presented with more than one option for dealing with an item. What do?
In this case, the order of importance of specific aspects must be determined. (See intro of textbook or intro to DDC)
What is the order of importance?
Deciding which subject will determine the item’s location in the collection. This can be influenced by how the collection is arranged aged or how the classification system itself is arranged.
Most useful section of the 900s?
930-999, history of places
What does T2 allow you to do?
Designate both general and specific geographic areas (and persons, only rarely). Mostly used to bring out geographic areas.
What do you do if the schedules state a specific # for the geographic treatment of a subject?
You do NOT add #’s from Table 2, it would give you a redundant #.
What happens If there is no specific geographic statement given in the schedules?
You MAY be redirected to T2 to bring the aspect out.
What is a direct referral to T2?
When it clearly states to add certain notations from T2z
What else can a referral to T2 look like in the schedules?
Asterisk, to the footnote, to the centered heading
What do you do when you want to use a geographic aspect in T2, but aren’t referred to it?
Use T1 -09.
