Learning
Acquiring information and skills that improve knowledge and behaviour change.
Study
Devotion of time and energy into the process of gaining knowledge. Most commonly at an educational establishment.
Encoding
This process uses the senses ( hearing, sight, touch, smell,etc.) to code information and enter it into the memory system.
Storage
Process used to store information in the form of memories in the brain.
Retrieval
The process in which when information is needed it can be retrieved/ accessed in the memory storage system.
Recognition
Identifying that encountered item/ concept has been encountered before.
Recall
Bringing to mind ( memory ) of something that has been encountered before.
Cued recall
Remembering information through it being prompted by connecting information.
Behaviourism
An approach in psychology that purely focuses on a organisms observable behaviour rather than any mental states.
Associative learning
Is a type of learning where similar or connected experiences are paired together.
Reinforcement
An approach to behaviour change by associating a behaviour with an pleasant outcome.
Positive reinforcement
Reinforcement that involves in giving something pleasurable, aka treats for a dog or candy for a child.
Negative reinforcement
Reinforcement that involves removing something unpleasant, such as turning of an horrible sound.
Punishment
An approach to behaviour change based on setting unpleasant associations to certain “unwanted” behaviour.
Operant conditioning
A type of behaviourist learning based of active behaviour/learning (eg. Pressing a button, pulling a lever.)
