A Fact or Observation is NOT a Thesis Statement
A thesis makes an argument or analysis. If you state something that is obvious, or that everyone accepts as a fact, you do not have a thesis.

What are the five important assumptions for academic writing?

- it has a formal tone and strictly governs the writing technique.
- it is organised with a formal structure that is used to present ideas.
- academic writing unlike other writing, rely heavily on other people’s ideas as well as the writer’s.
- you need to think about who you are writing for (educated scholars).
