Week 3: Part 6 Flashcards
what did the kitten experiment show?
If an animal is reared in a particular environment, neurons in the animal’s brain change so they become tuned to respond more strongly to specific aspects of that environment
what did the greebles experiment show?
- “tuned” brain to operate best within a specific environment, recognized faces better
who discovered the object discrimination problem and the landmark discrimination problem?
ungerleider and mishkin
what is the object discrimination problem?
temporal lobe removed from monkey made it difficult to identify objects
what is the landmark discrimination problem?
parietal lobe removed - makes it difficult to determine objects location
what is the perception pathway?
pathway from visual cortex to the temporal lobe
what is the action pathway?
pathway from visual cortex to the parietal lobe
what is perception?
dynamic - involves processes such as inference & taking knowledge into account but also because how closely perception is linked to action
