Week 3- Molecules Flashcards
Why is common terminology in anatomy and medicine important?
Enables precise communication among healthcare professionals and scientists worldwide
Clear effective communication between MDT- saves time and stops errors from poor communication and documentation
What are the 6 key features of the globally accepted anatomical position?
Standing erect
Head facing forward
Gaze directed forward
Arms by sides
Palms facing forwards with thumbs lateral
Feet together and toes directed forwards
What is the supine position?
Person is lying on their back with the face and toes directed upwards.
When are cadavers placed in the supine position?
Anterior dissections
What does is the prone position?
The body is horizontal facing downwards
When is the cadaver placed in the prone position?
Back dissection
What are the names of the 4 main anatomical planes?
Median plane
Parasaggital plane
Frontal/Coronal plane
Transverse plane
What is the median plane?
The vertical anteroposterior plane passing longitudinally through the midlines of the head, neck and trunk where it intersects the surface of the body, dividing it into right and left halves.
What is the parasaggital plane?
Vertical planes passing through the body parallel to the median plane
What is the frontal plane?
Vertical planes passing through the body at right angles to the median plane, dividing the body into anterior (front) and posterior (back) parts.
What is a longitudinal section?
A section that runs lengthwise or parallel to the long axis of the body or of any of its parts
What is the transverse section?
Slices of the body or its parts that are cut at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the body or of any of its parts
What is an oblique section?
Slices of the body or any of its parts that are not cut along the previously listed anatomical planes.
What does the term superior refer to?
The structure that is nearer the vertex, the topmost point of the cranium
What does the term inferior refer to?
A structure that is situated nearer the sole of the foot
