week 3 material Flashcards
Quantitative
Deals with non-numeric data.
Uses methods that include interviews, focus groups
Qualitative
Deals with numeric data.
Uses methods such as surveys, experiments
Measures and quantifies phenomena, test hypotheses
Independent Variable
Factor that is manipulated. Presumed cause
Dependent Variable
Factor of interest that is measured or observed. Presumed effect
Constant
parameter/ character that only takes one form during a study
Control
Ability of research to limit or monitor confounding, extraneous, influential variables that mitigate the impact of the independent variable on the dependent variable
When is control best?
Best when you have randomization- minimal bias in selection and testing process
Binding - minimal bias by the investigator, tester, and subject
Internal Validity
suggest treatment caused the effect
External Validity
sample size + can compromise generalizability
Statistical Conclusion Validity
use of correct tool to change data
