week 3 learning and self concept theories Flashcards
Define the self and it’s parts
The self is an abstract concept. We can think of it as a system that contains 3 components; an individual’s knowledge, evaluation, and regulation of themselves.
What is the difference between the self and personality?
The self refers to a much broader concept or overarching system of our knowledge, evaluation and regulations of ourselves. It also is linked to culture and identity.
Personality is more specific, it is a part of the self. It reflects a person’s typical pattern of behaviour, feelings and thoughts.
What are self-schemas
Self schemas form part of the self. Like others schemas, they help us to organise information and interpret the world.
What are the 4 parts to our self-concept
- Material self
- Social self
- Spiritual self
- True self
