Week 3 Day 1 Types Of Variables Flashcards
Answer “how many” or “how much”
Numerical variables
Can assume any value between a certain set of real numbers ( give also examples)
Continuous variable
Can only assume any whole value within the limits of the given variable. Shortly it is countable ( give also examples)
Discrete variables
Answer “what type” or “which category “
Categorized variables
Can be ordered or ranked( give also examples)
Ordinal variables
Can’t be organized in a logical sequence (give also example)
Nominal Variables
Present only in 2 categories (give also example)
Dichotomous variables
Have many categories (give also example)
Polychotomus
Usually manipulated in an experiment
İndependent variables
Usually affected but the manipulation of the independent variables they are called “response “ or “predicted variables”
Dependent variables
Also called “mediating” or “intervening variables “
Extraneous variables
It is a non experimental variable that changes the other variables in an experimental study
Predictor variables
It is a non experimental variables that usually influenced by the predictor variables
Criterion variables
A variable according to the number being studied that only 1 variable is being studied
Univariate study
It is a variable according to the number being studied that has 2 variables being studied
Bivariate study
