Week 3 Flashcards
What is Occlusal stability?
The balance between elevator and depressor muscles.
Rational movement vs Translational movement….
Rotational = rotating but not moving Translation = moving from a-b
Terminal hinge axis (THA)
Imaginary bar that passes through condyles.
What is the working side of the mandible during lateral movement?
the side toward which the mandible moves is the working side. *Condyles termed the same way.
Where is the cone of bennett located?
On the working condyle
What is mandibular Lateral Translation?
a side shift of the mandible. The center shifts as condyle pushes against bone (hip and table example).
Chewing motion makes what shape?
Teardrop shape
According to posselt’s envelope of motion, what kind of movement occurs when you open your mouth just a little?
Pure rotational movement
What is centric occlusion?
The initial contact or first touching of teeth upon closing mouth.
What is maximum Intercuspation?
Maximal of tooth contact at closed position
Draw and label Posselt’s envelope of motion.
Great job!
5 functions of anterior teeth…..
Ant. guidance Preform initial acts of mastication speech lip support esthetics
Anterior guidance is dictated by what 3 things?
- Postion of the incisal edge of the mandibular anterior teeth relative to the lingual surfaces of the maxillary anterior teeth.
- Changes in morphology of the lingual surfaces of maxillary anterior teeth.
- Length of mandibular incisors or canines
What are the two forms of Anterior guidance?
- Incisal guidance
- Canine guidance
* Group function can replace canine guidance if needed.
What 3 purposes does the custom anterior guide table serve?
- Provides anterior guidance when anterior teeth are prepared.
- When only posterior teeth need replace, the angulation of the guide serves to estimate the buccolingual and mesiodistal cusp angles, so as to avoid interferences in both protrusive and non-working excursions.
- Reduces wear and tear on casts by helping guide.
