Week 2 - Muscles of the Face and Mastication Flashcards
Origin, insertion + innervation of the buccinator
Origin: Floor of temporal fossa
Insertion: Coronoid process (of mandible)
Innervation: CNVII (facial nerve)
Function, innervation and blood supply of orbicularis oris
Function: Pushing food out from cheeks, part of swallowing, sucking and mastication
Innervation: Sensory: trigeminal (mandibular, CNV3), Motor: facial (CNVII)
Blood supply: facial artery
Origin, insertion + innervation of temporalis
Origin: temporal fossa
Insertion: coronoid process/ramus
Innervation: Mandibular nerve (CNV3)
Origin, insertion + innervation of masseter
Origin: zygomatic arch
Insertion: angle/lateral surface of mandibular ramus
Origin, insertion + innervation of lateral pterygoid
Origin:
Superior head: infratemporal surface of the greater wing of the sphenoid bone
Inferior head: lateral surface of the lateral pterygoid plate,
Insertion: both on the pterygoid fovea of the mandible.
Innervation: CNV3
Origin, insertion + innervation of medial pterygoid
Origin:
Superficial head: maxillary tuberosity + palatine bone
Deeper head: medial surface of lateral pterygoid plate of sphenoid bone
Insertion: medial surface of mandibular ramus and angle.
Insertion:
Innervation: CNV3
