Week 2 Histology Flashcards
What is the renal corpuscle?
Glomerulus + bowmans capsule- Knot of blood vessels- where filtration occurs
What are vasa recta?
Straight vessels running down through the medulla.
What epithelia lines the parietal layer of bowmans capsule and what is its function?
Simple squamous
Makes funnel to collect ultra filtrate
What is the urinary pole?
At bottom of bowmans capsule - funnel that collects ultra-filtrate
What cell type is found in the visceral layer and how does filtrate pass through this layer?
endothelium fenestrated and podocytes have foot like processes- between projections are filtration slits
- endothelium and podocytes share basement membrane- very leaky
What generally occurs in the PCT and what endothelia are present to help this function?
Simple cuboidal with brush border allow reabsorption to occur
What are the 4 parts of the loop of henle and what epithelia are present in each section?
Pars recta- straight part
Thin descending limb
Thin ascending limb
- thin limbs- dipping down into medulla- simple squamous- no active transport
Thick ascending limb
- simple cuboidal no brush border- active transport occurs
What epithelia are present in the DCT?
Simple cuboidal- no brush border, large lumen, many mitochondria
What cell type are present in the DCT?
Macula Densa cells- sensitive to NaCl conc.
In the ureter how many muscle layers are there and what epithelia line them?
2 smooth muscle layers, 3 layers in lower 1/3
Transitional epithelium
How many muscle layers are in the bladder and what epithelia are present?
3 layers of muscle and outer adventitia
Transitional epithelia
