Conjunctival chemosis
- Odema of palpébral conjunctiva
- allergic / viral eye disease
Papillae
Swellings I’m tarsal conjunctiva , visible blood vessel in centre
Inflammatory cells in hyperplastic epithelium
Ocular allergy / bacterial infection
Follicles
Raised white / pink lumps in tarsal / forniceal conjunctiva
Comprise lymphocytes
Response to viral , chlamydia and toxic responses
Concrétions
Small soft yellow deposit on tarsal surface
Older px
Discomfort
No treatment if asymptomatic
Can be teased out with hypodermic needle after anaesthetic the surface
Sub conjunctival haemorrhage
- common cause of red eye
- symptoms mild irritation
- signs - red eye
- treatment - resolves spontaneously
- unilateral
- idiopathic ( no known cause / coughing/ straining)
- common in those who take anticoagulants
- secondary to trauma
- associated with serious head injury
