Week 2: Attachments, Innervations, Actions Flashcards
Pectoralis Major (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Clavicular Head: anterior surface of clavicle
Sternocostal Head: anterior surface of sternum, superior 6 costal cartilages
Intertubercular sulcus/groove of humber
Lateral and Medial Pectoral Nerve
Together: adducts and medially rotates humerus
Acting alone: clavicular head flexes humerus and sternocostal head extends it from flexed position
Pectoralis Minor (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Ribs 3 → 5
Coracoid process of scapula
Medial Pectoral Nerve
Depresses and protracts scapula
Serratus Anterior (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Ribs 1 → 8
Medial border of scapula
Long Thoracic nerve
Protracts scapula, rotates scapula upward
Deltoid (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Lateral ⅓ of clavicle, acromion and spine of scapula
Deltoid tuberosity of humerus
Axillary Nerve
Anterior part: flexes and medially rotates arm
Middle part: abducts arm
Posterior part: extends and laterally rotates arm
Supraspinatus (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Supraspinous fossa of scapula
Greater tubercle of humerus
Suprascapular nerve
Initiates abduction of arm
Infraspinatus (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Infraspinous fossa of scapula
Greater tubercle of humerus
Suprascapular nerve
Laterally rotates arm
Teres Minor (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Lateral border of scapula
Greater tubercle of humerus
Axillary nerve
Laterally rotates arm
Teres Major (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Inferior angle of scapula
Intertubercular sulcus of humerus
Lower subscapular nerve
Extends, adducts, and medially rotates arm
Subscapularis (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Subscapular fossa
Lesser tubercle of humerus
Upper and lower subscapular nerves
Medially rotates arm, helps hold head of humerus in glenoid cavity
Triceps Brachii (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Long head: infraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Lateral head: posterior surface of humerus, superior to radial groove
Medial head: posterior surface of humerus, inferior to glenoid cavity
Olecranon of ulna
Radial nerve
Extends the forearm
Anconeus (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Lateral epicondyle of humerus
Lateral surface of olecranon
Radial nerve
Assists triceps in extending forearm
Biceps Brachii (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Short head: coracoid process of scapula
Long head: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula
Tuberosity of radius
Musculocutaneous nerve (C5,6,7)
Supinates forearm and when supine, flexes the forearm/elbow
Coracobrachalis (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Coracoid process of scapula
Middle third of humerus
Musculocutaneous nerve (C5,6,7)
Flexes and adducts the arm and shoulder
Brachialis (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Distal anterior humerus
Coronoid process and tuberosity ulna
Musculocutaneous nerve (C5,6)
Flexes forearm/elbow in all positions
Pronator Teres (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Coronoid process of ulna and supraepicondylar ridge of humerus
Lateral radius
Median nerve
Pronates forearm
Flexor Carpi Radialis (FCR) (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Medial epicondyle of humerus
2nd metacarpal
Median nerve
Flexes and abducts wrist
Palmaris Longus (prox attach, distal, innervate, action)
Medial epicondyle of humerus
Flexor retinaculum and palmar aponeurosis
Median nerve
Weakly flexes wrist and tenses palmar aponeurosis
