Origin of “Fiji”

A
  • in 1879 “fee gee” was proposed by the New York chapter
  • “phi gamma” from Ohio, and also “delta” which was later confirmed by the other fraternities whose name includes that letter
  • southern states called us “gamma” for a while
  • at the 1894 convention, “Fiji” was happily decided

What is Frank Norris Pig Dinner

A
  • first pig dinner was held at university of California at Berkeley in 1893
  • longest continually running annual grad event in the Greek world
  • Frank Norris staged the ceremony and led the song “all hail the pig”
  • wrote “an exile toast” when he could not attend in 1900
