Who was Dick Hebdige?
Expression through fashion. Sociologist, marxist and structures. Went to different groups in different ways.
What did Hebdige argue?
figure sub-culture borrows from the mainstream culture, finding ways to express their ideas better.
Who was Louis Althusser?
coined the term Relative autonomy. killed his wife. Ideology represents the imaginary relationship of individuals to their real condition of existence. Everything is a conceptual hallucination, an ideological construct.
V Teddy Boys Movement

Punk (sex pistols)
Rock, smashing guitars (violence). Destroyed mainstream, anti-tune and rhythm, lyrics argued mainstream politics.
Dick Hebdige
Created a methodology of how culture should operate. Culture (movies, music) drives the pop industry.
Ideological
story of politics that in the unfolding. it pulls you into playing your part
What is relative autonomy?
The narrative of your life unfolds, you accept without threatening. Power flows in different ways. Social stratification.
Define hegemony
how the dominant group coerce other into believing that they are the dominant one. Everything is the same in its basic parts.
Define conjunction
you need to understand what are the historical economic factors that give rise to whats happening in the economy.
Define specificity
comes from specific circumstances (subuclture) economic conjuncture.
define cultural hybridity
The way in which some cultures erupt into the mainstream by taking parts from different things in a hybrid way.
