Week 2 Flashcards
Anatomical crown
Portion of tooth covered by enamel
Clinical crown
Portion of tooth visible by mouth
What are 3 types of macro anatomy
. Roots cervical line and crown
In adult stage what or proportion between anatomical and clinal crown
Equal - best condition
In young stage what it the proportion between anatomical = and clinical crown
At Th teeth hasn’t fully erupted, Joy would expect more artaomical
In old stage what it the proportion between anatomical = and clinical crown
Due to gum recession you would expect Th clinical crown to be shown more
What it atomical root
Part of the root covered by cementum
What is the cervical line / cement enamol junction
A line that separates anatomical root from anatomical crown
What are the 3 micro-anatomy of the teeth
Enamel, dentin, cementum
What it enamel
Hard, mineralized tissue hardest living tissue
Ectodermal in origin
Covers anatomica crown
Dentin?
Hard tissue which former main body of tooth, surround pulp cavity, and is covered enamel. Less minimized than caramel, it does not fracture, resident material so it protect enamel. Less hard than enamel . But harder than cementum
Cementum 7
Hard bone like tissue which cover dentin of anatomical root.
What is dentino-enamel junction, Dej
Internal line separating dentin and enamel in anatomical crown
What it dentino-cementum junction or dcj
Internal line of metry dentin and cementum in anatomical root
What is pulp
Living sot tissue; tooth blood vessel and nerve supply. Also called dental pulp
What it pulp cavity
Entire internal cavity of tooth that has these entities: pulp canal, pulp chamber, pulp horn and the apical foreman
Pulp cavity / root canal?
portion of pulp cavity which is located in root of the tooth (also called as root canal)
Pulp chamber-
enlarged portion of pulp cavity which is found mostly in anatomical crown
Pulp horns-
usually pointed incisal or occlusal elongations of pulp chamber which often correspond to cusps, or lobes of teeth
Apical foramen-
the end of the pulp canal by which pulp tissues connect to the periodontal tissues.
Alveolar process
bone which surrounds & supports
all teeth in each jaw.
bony socket,-• portion of alveolar process, into which an erupted tooth is set.
bony socket,-• portion of alveolar process, into which an erupted tooth is set.
Crypt
portion of the alveolar process into which an unerupted tooth is set.
Periodontal ligament (membrane)
fibrous attachment of tooth cementum to the alveolar bone
Gingiva or “gums“-
Fibrous tissue enclosed by mucous membrane that covers alveolar processes & surrounds necks of teeth.
Periodontium apparatus-
is a system which responsible for holding a tooth in its bony socket. Composed of
a- Periodontal ligaments
b- Alveolar bone
c- Cementum and;
d- Gingiva
