week 2 Flashcards
base/alkalin
molecules that can accept hydrogen ions from a solution.
(OH-) also known as Hydroxide, adn can stableize/neutralize a hydrogen (H+).
acid
a pH less than 7. One step down the scale and it becomes 10 times for acidic. Called the hydrogen ion, a positive charge.
pH
Is a measure of how acidic or how basic a chemical is.
ions
A charged atom or molecule that can be either positively or negatively charged.
Buffers
chemicals that can help keep pH stable. if these chemicals start to fall these chemicals can act like an acid or a base.
Bicarbonate
A buffer in out blood that keeps our blood pH stable, even if a little bit of acid or a little bit of base is added to the blood.
Neural compounds
when there is an equal amount of hydrogens (H+) and bases (OH-) in the pH = 7.
